Playing Up the Neck with Jordan Tice

October 19, 26, November 2, 9 from 6-7pm at Soft Junk, 919 Gallatin Ave

Join acclaimed guitarist Jordan Tice for a four-week exploration of the guitar neck, learning how to break free from familiar first-position shapes and discover new ways to navigate your instrument.

Known for his dazzling flatpicking, inventive fingerstyle playing, and seemingly effortless musicality, Jordan is one of the most exciting acoustic guitarists working in roots music today. A member of the celebrated string band Hawktail, he's also performed and recorded with artists including David Rawlings, Steve Martin, Andrew Marlin, and Aoife O'Donovan.

In this class, Jordan will break down the ways he thinks about moving up and down the neck, sharing an approach that's practical, musical, and connected. Rather than simply memorizing shapes and patterns, students will explore how different areas of the fretboard relate to one another, developing a more intuitive understanding of the instrument and greater freedom in their playing.

These insights apply to all styles—from bluegrass and folk to jazz, rock, and whatever other sounds are exciting you right now!

Best suited for intermediate and advanced guitarists who are comfortable with open-position chords and ready to expand their musical horizons.
