What makes it Country? With Timbo

What makes it Country? With Timbo

Mondays at Soft Junk from 7-8pm (October 19, 26, November 2, 9)

What Makes It Country?

with Tim “Timbo” Bolo

What is it that makes country music sound country? Is it the rhythm? The guitar playing? The way a song is sung? Or is it something a little harder to put your finger on?

You know him, you love him... and if you've spent any time around Nashville's honky-tonk scene, chances are you've heard him playing out at Skinny Dennis, Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge, or the legendary Station Inn.

Born and raised in Music City, Timbo is a one-of-a-kind Nashville gem who embellishes traditional country music in ways that are soulful, surprising, and distinctly his own. A beloved fixture of the local music community, he's made waves with a sound that draws deeply from his traditional country roots while bringing something entirely new to the table. Backed by a community of lifelong musicians, Timbo and his band have developed a sound many have dubbed “Soul Country.”

Now he's bringing his experience, secret sauce, and tricks of the trade to folks eager to make country music uniquely their own!

In this guitar-centered class, we'll explore the rhythms, chord progressions, playing techniques, and stylistic nuances that give traditional country music its unmistakable character. Timbo will share the musical instincts and little flourishes that make the difference between simply playing the notes and really sounding country.

Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding of traditional country music or bring a little more honky-tonk flavor to your playing, this is a chance to learn from one of Nashville's most distinctive musicians—and discover what makes country music tick.
