Get deep into the roots of Southern Appalachian old-time fiddling in this welcoming beginner class. Students will explore the basics of old-time fiddle through traditional Tennessee and Round Peak tunes that are commonly played in community jam sessions.
Chloe breaks down the melody, bowing patterns, rhythms, chords, and embellishments of each tune she teaches, helping students understand not just what to play, but how and why old-time fiddling sounds the way it does. Tunes are taught by ear, with an emphasis on rhythmic bowing, groove, and playing together—key elements of the old-time tradition.
This is a beginner class, suitable for new players and players who’ve studied other styles (including violin) who are looking to develop more stylistic bowing. By the end of the class, students will have a small repertoire of classic tunes, increased confidence with their fiddle, and a strong foundation for joining jam sessions or continuing their old-time fiddle journey in the spirit of the old masters Chloe learned from.
